Fresh, locally sourced produce is abundant all along Croatia's stunning coastline. We pick five of the best restaurants to look out for on your next trip to the Adriatic
For many, a trip to Croatia is all about soaking up the sun, enjoying the sea and relaxing (or perhaps partying), but it's also a foodie's paradise. With fresh, locally sourced produce readily available along the country's stunning coastline, it's no wonder there are so many top-notch restaurants in popular holiday spots.
Here are five of the best to check out on your next Adriatic adventure.
Don Dino, Trogir
Nestled in a small open-air square just a stone's throw from the ancient town's harbour, you'll find Don Dino. This family-run restaurant serves up a variety of fresh fish and shellfish, authentic speciality meat dishes and freshly made pasta.
We sampled their signature dish – monkfish cigars stuffed with sour cherries, coated in a crispy batter and served with a spicy yogurt dipping sauce. For mains, we indulged in a delicious cuttlefish black risotto and fresh monkfish.
Don Dino also opens for breakfast, offering acai bowls and avocado toast, as well as lighter lunches. They boast an extensive wine list, but we must admit, their house wines were rather impressive.

Black Pepper, Hvar Island
Tucked away up a steeply stepped alleyway not far from the main harbour in Hvar Town, you'll discover Black Pepper restaurant. Every inch of the steps is occupied with guest tables, and there's also a charming internal courtyard.
The menu may be small, but it's packed with flavour. We tucked into a beautifully presented tuna steak served with bulgar wheat and a melt-in-the-mouth sea bass with apple fennel and brown butter, and kick off your meal with the locally produced rose petal liqueur a delightful start to the feast.
The desserts are truly inventive. The standout was the 'camembert' a white chocolate case enclosing whipped cheese stuffed with a pocket of cherries and raspberries. Truly unique!
Lola, Vis Island
Tucked away down a side road in a private walled garden, Lola is the creation of a Spanish/Croatian couple who have successfully fused both culinary cultures to create an exceptional menu in a truly beautiful setting. From fresh seafood and fish including Adriatic fish stew to traditional slow-cooked lamb and succulent steaks, there's something for everyone.
Vegetarian and vegan options are also available, and the friendly staff were happy to 'see what we can do' to fulfil most requests. We can honestly say the swordfish was the best we have ever tasted fresh, creamy and perfectly cooked and was accompanied by lightly sauteed potatoes as requested by us.
Filippi, Korcula Island
This Michelin guide-recommended restaurant is nestled within the walls of the old town in Korcula and overlooks both the mainland and the nearest islands, offering views that are simply breathtaking.
The cuisine here is traditional with a special emphasis on seafood, available as either a three- or four-course set menu, or a tasting menu. The wine list is impressive, boasting wines from their own vineyard.
We began our meal with a selection of cheeses from Pag Island, which varied in intensity and were served with nuts and fruits. The subsequent course of sea bass carpaccio and sardines was simply outstanding.
The main dishes of black cuttlefish arancini and sea bass with Swiss chard and potato were satisfyingly hearty, leaving just enough space for a petite dessert of olive oil and chocolate and a strawberry sorbet.
Restaurant Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik
Another restaurant recommended by the Michelin guide, the Dubrovnik offers covered, al fresco dining and a hidden staircase leading to a private rooftop courtyard with its renowned terrace. Famous for its charming ambiance and warm, friendly staff, it's not inexpensive but provides a memorable dining experience, serving some of the finest food in Dubrovnik.
There's a tasting menu and an à la carte menu featuring delicacies such as turbot with fennel and pumpkin and European lobster with parsnip cream and dried raspberries. Starters include classics like foie gras and beef tartare, as well as octopus with black truffle and scallops with goats' cheese and porcini mushrooms.
There's also an extensive wine list featuring wines from Spain, Italy, France and Croatia.
