Thom,

My AI does a field approved install of the IO-470-D in Lake City, FL. Actually, he can put just about any reasonable engine you want in his tube-mount. We like this particular engine though and are contemplating going the STC route with it. He currently has a TSIO-520-R built up and ready to go. Had plans for it to go into a Navion here, but right now the deal is not quite finalized. There is an STC out for that engine too, but we have not yet talked with the holder. We can always field approve it in my IA's mount though. If you like turbo & high altitudes, this is a very nice engine.

Gang ...

I am doing some research on which Continental O-470's & IO470's are, have been, or could be approved for use in a Navion.

I know the O-470-P , IO-470-C, and IO-470-H are on the Type Certificate. I have not found any 470 mods listed on the Summary of STC's for Navion's, but I have heard rumors of someone having an STC for the O-470-R and the IO-470-D. Does anyone have any concrete information about those engines or other models that have been Approved , who's done it, etc.? How about availability ?

Speaking of engines, does anyone know where I can pick up a half time
IO-470 with prop for my '47 Navion. I'm contemplating retiring the E-225.

I was thinking of buying Dick McSpadden's IO-470 but he has that nasty oil
leak running down the side of his airplane (haha).

Thom:

You should know by now that the Gray Goose, N91472, has an O-470-B-CI Continental in it's nose. This was installed by a one-time STC and 337, having been removed from another Navion. The installation rails are rather standard, not the tubular type. The plane does suffer from being somewhat nose-heavy.

I could fax you the paper work, if you want.

I know of no 470s (even leaking ones) but seriously, I just got a lead on a 1st run 520 out of a Bonanza that may be available for Core Charge. I do not know what current core charge is but someone told me they thought $8000.00.
