Can you pay tolls online without E-ZPass in Maryland? ›

Pay-By-Plate allows you to pay Maryland tolls electronically without mounting a transponder on your vehicle.

A $25 civil penalty will be assessed for each citation. Failure to pay or to contest the toll violation can lead to suspension of or refusal to renew your Maryland vehicle registration and/or referral to the Maryland Central Collection Unit (CCU).

In Maryland, the Intercounty Connector (ICC)/MD 200 and the I-95 Express Toll Lanes (ETL) are AET roads, and cash is not accepted. Customers without a valid E-ZPass account will be charged the Video Toll Rate.

Maryland E-ZPass interior transponders are free of charge. A prepaid toll amount of $25 is required for each transponder. There is a yearly fee of $18, which is waived for Maryland addresses. Customer's accounts will auto-replenish when the account balance falls below $10 to approximately one month's level of use.

Motorists who do not pay or contest within 30 days will be referred to the MVA as follows: Less than $1,000 (unpaid tolls and penalties) - Referred for non-renewal flag of vehicle registration.

Can I use my MD E-ZPass in a rental car? ›

If you already have an E-ZPass, you can use it in a rental car. Simply add your rental car's license plate to your account.

The highway has no toll booths or physical barricades to entry; all tolling is via E- ZPass transponders recorded with high speed sensors on overhead gantries. For vehicles that do not have E-ZPass transponders, MDTA will record the license plate and send a bill for the toll with a $3 service fee added.

Pay-By-Plate is a hassle-free way to pay Maryland tolls. Tolls are automatically billed to your credit card each time you use Maryland's facilities, with no need for a transponder. With Pay-By-Plate, each time you travel through a participating toll facility, a camera takes a photo of your registered license plate.

The Maryland Transportation Authority is a member of the E-ZPass Interagency Group and accepts all valid electronic-toll transponders affiliated with the E-ZPass system. E-ZPass is accepted at all toll plazas from Maryland to Illinois and North Carolina to Maine.

All eight Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) facilities are all electronic (cashless). With All Electronic Tolling (AET), drivers do not stop or slow down to pay tolls. Instead, they are collected through E-ZPass, Pay-By-Plate, and Video Tolling.

Drivers who use Maryland toll facilities without E-ZPass or Pay-By-Plate will receive a Notice of Toll Due (NOTD) in the mail. NOTDs can be paid here and may qualify for a discount if an NOTD has not been mailed. Failure to pay may result in additional penalties, collections actions, and prevent registration renewal.

To check if you owe toll in California, call at 877-229-8655. If you have a FasTrak, you can log into your account and view all the toll hits and the ones you owe. Note: For missed tolls in California, the concerned tolling authority sends a toll invoice to the vehicle owner (usually within 30 days).
